2. BRONCHIA AND THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

2.1 Bronchitis

Observation:

Mainly caused by bacteria, it affects calves more than adults. Deep, dry, phlegm cough, fast breathing, thick mucus (whitish or greenish). It is often associated with conjunctivitis (red, irritated eyes); the pulse is faster, the animal looks depressed, is feverish, lacks appetite but craves cold water. Scours. Weakened immune system.

Cause:

A weakened immune system, following vaccination, dehydration, too much protein, a deficiency of fibre (consult metabolic Type 5 and preventive calves health plan)
Protocol: LUNGSOL + SEPTISOL morning LUNGSOL+FLAMESOL evening until the symptoms regress (5 to10 days).

2.2 Bronco pneumonia and pneumonia:

Observation:

a virus often causes Bronco-pneumonia in calves and cows. Symptoms are: high fever, deep dry cough without expectoration. Health deteriorates rapidly. This is a very serious illness; the veterinary must be called immediately. It is also good to have the required Solidago products on hand.

Protocol:

VIRALSOL + FLAMESOL alternately every two hours with LUNGSOL + SEPTISOL for the first 24 hours, every 4 hours the next day, then, VIRALSOL + LUNGSOL in the morning and LUNGSOL + SEPTISOL in the evening, until the symptoms disappear (about 5-10 days).

For calves, this illness is often complicated by septic scours.
Protocol for scours complications: SEPTISOL + LUNGSOL alternately with LUNGSOL + INTOXSOL, 3-4 times a day for the first 48 hours. Then, SEPTISOL + LUNGSOL in the morning, LUNGSOL + INTOXSOL in the evening for at least 3 days. Complete with LUNGSOL and SEPTISOL morning and evening, during 5 days or until symptoms disappear.

2.3 Rhino-tracheitis,

conjunctivitis, coryza, conjunctivitis, angina:

All problems with the superior respiratory system (nose, throat, larynx) can be treated like bronchitis:
Protocol: LUNGSOL + SEPTISOL 2 times a day for 5 to10 days, until symptoms disappear.

2.4 Barn fever or flu

Cause:

Looks like a bronco-pneumonia.

VIRALSOL, 3 days and MYCOSOL 3 days, in a row before winter, then once a month if the problem occurs frequently in the barn.
Protocol: same as the broncho pneumonia.

2.5 I.B.R. (infectious bovine rhino-tracheitis)

Observation:

Happens mainly in winter. It is of viral origin, and is accompanied by discharge and inflammation of the superior (nasal and ocular) respiratory mucous membranes, with thick, rough and reddened eyelids, excessive salivation and loss of appetite. The symptoms worsen rapidly and there are frequent abortions.
A secondary pneumonia can settle in if the illness is not treated. We now have a bacterial infection on top of a viral illness.

Cause:

A weakened immune system, often after vaccinations. The herpes virus, common among animals less than six months old, is propagated by direct contamination of mucous membranes, and incubates in 3 to 20 days, often following important temperature variations during winter.

Preventive and curative Protocol:

LUNGSOL + VIRALSOL morning
MYCOSOL+ SEPTISOL evening.
For 2 days.
In acute cases, with strong fever, give every 2 hours, then every 4 hours for the next 48 hours.
For the winter months, one day of each products.

2.6 Mycoplasma broncho pneumonia

Protocol:

LUNGSOL+SEPTISOL alternate with MYCOSOL+VIRALSOL every 2 hours for one or 2 days, then 4 times a day for the next 2 days, and 2 times a day for 5 to 10 days.

Labo Solidago has been offerering since 1990 solutions to dairy farmers whose cows, sheeps or goats suffer from different ailments like mastitis, acute mastitis or toxic mastitis or chronic mastitis, footrot, different infections, like vaginitis or metritis, pneumonia and bronchitis, arthritis, acidosis and acetonemia, retention of the placenta, with signs like high somatic cell counts (leucocytes), slow growth and diarrhea in calves and cows.
