France - La FCO et la MHE, des solutions préventives existent
  • Tags: culicoide epizootie FCO MHE

French ruminant farming has suffered a great deal of damage, both to the animals and to the breeders, two distinct epizootics unprecedented in terms of the speed of their spread and the number of outbreaks affected. Then, as the months went by, a number of unexplained oddities appeared: brainless calves, abortions, male sterility, etc.

As of January 24, 2025, there have been 9,584 outbreaks of bluetongue-3 detected in France. Regarding bluetongue type 8, the mortality rate of cows varies from 0% to 29%. which represents 0 to 7 animals within the herds. Approximately 60% of the cattle farms surveyed have at least one adult clinically affected by FCO-8. At least 20% of the cattle farms surveyed observed abortions due to FCO-8.

Recently, in Normandy, a breeder reported that the culicoides had migrated into the stable, providing them with the necessary warmth and that bluetongue had already affected 3 cows in January 2025.

PREVENTION - ACTION - SUPPORT

At Labo Solidago, we know that the fight against Bluetongue (Bluetongue) and EHD (Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease) requires good prevention. Our Soli FCO 24 and Solisep solutions are traditionally used from spring to fall, when vector mosquitoes are most active. However, given the ingenuity of these midges, it will be necessary to adapt the protocol to your situation.
